Sydney Fun - January 2008

Bundeena - Royal National Park

January 31st 2008 03:58
You don't need to get out of Sydney to experience a bit of tranquility of the national parks. Royal National Park down south of Sydney is an excellent day trip or a camping weekend for those looking for a quick escape.

Camping is great in the park. There are facilities available for car camping, or camp sites requiring a bit of trekking to get to. A couple of years ago a group of friends and I decided to catch a train to Loftus station and trekked from there. Although it did take us a whole 8 hours to get through to our camp site, it was a day of bush and fun. There are easier ways to get there, such as driving, or getting to Cronulla and catch a ferry over

Prepare for another long celebration! (LINK)

January 17th 2008 05:15
Yep. Sydney is always celebrating. After the new years fireworks, after Sydney Festival, after all the beers sold and drank, it's once again time to celebrate - The Chinese New Years: the year of the Rat.

If you want to learn the whole (well, brief) story about how these animals came about, this blog post (Year of the Earth Rat) tells a good story on it

The Day Tripper

January 12th 2008 10:17
I was standing around waiting for the bus to arrive, and saw the little advertisement that was stuck on the bus stop - The Day Tripper, unlimited use on buses, trains and the ferry service! - I know these have been around for a while, but never did I think of getting one for my day's public transport.

So out of instinct, I thought I'd give it a go

Sydney's Markets

While large corporate malls and chain stores line the streets of Sydney, there are still places to find a quirky or uniquely designed clothing or jewellery in a market. Sydney has markets galore and you'll find one most weekends somewhere, lurking in the local school or a designated parkland.

What I love about markets is there is always that little store selling something unique. Most markets store holders make their own stuff, whether it be jewellery, or clothing, or crafts or food, they have their own style that cannot be found anywhere else. I love having a pair of earrings that cannot be found in Westfield or any other mainstream stores

Kayak around the harbour

January 8th 2008 22:22
Sydney summer is all for outdoors, the beaches are always packed and parks are always full of people with fat and juicy steaks on their BBQ and a plastic cricket set for the inter-family series.
