The Cat Empire in Sydney
January 15th 2008 22:27
The Cat Empire will be playing at Moore Park in Sydney on 2nd February, with special guests, The Beautiful Girls, Blue King Brown and Ash Grunwald.
It's an all ages event.
The Cat Empire will have to be my favourite band. However I don't really see how much fun it would be to see them in Moore Park.
I am not saying they can't get the ticket sales. I am sure they can. However their previous concerts were mostly played at say, the Enmore Theatre or The Metro, smaller venues allowing more involvement from the audience, which is the sort of band they are. They are fun, funky, down to earth and full of energy and the intimacy of a smaller audience suits them, not the big stadium setting.
Although, I must say if you have not heard them in concert, or are curious to their music, perhaps go along.
I understand their music is not for everyone, and that is the main reason why I love them. Their music has a lot of world influence, the band members have travelled a lot to learn from the other cultures you'll often get jazz mixed with latin, african mixed with jazz and other funky sounds to go with their music. Their lyrics always means something, about our society, about the environment, but so gently and subtly, the words don't come out harsh like propaganda. The words encourage you to reflect, or even just simply smile and go with it.
With that said, I am not sure how they are going to set up Moore Park. I have this image similar to what U2 had for their concert setting, but I could be wrong.
The Cat Empire do put on a good concert though.
