Kingpin Bowling - Darling Harbour
January 7th 2008 00:01
Here is a new-ish venue to check out: Kingpin Bowling Lounge in Darling Harbour.
We went for a game last November when it just opened and not even licenced yet to check out what the fuss was about. As I walked in the door I wasn't too sure if I had walked in the right place: the purple soft lounges line up neatly next to the bowling lanes, small disco balls hang from the ceiling and it's sparkles rotates around the room. The whole place was darkened with coloured lights and raunchy music videos played on the scoring tvs.
This place felt more like a gentlemen's club than a bowling place. I mean, it's not like bowling is even a romantic sport to take that significant other for the mood....
Nevertheless, we had a good game of bowling, and I admit the lounges were comfortable.
It really is more like up-market bowling where you go to try to impress rather than really going for the game. It's slightly more expensive than other bowling venues too so I'd suggest for a game of fun bowling among family and friends, stick to the usual AMF bowling or your local bowling lanes.
A different concept perhaps, it's not everyone's cup of tea. (And I still can't justify paying more for the game simply because it feels more up-market)

As for why not? Well exactly what Cibbuano said - they make it feel too up market, it's like for someone who is used to pub beers and suddenly have to pay $10 for the same beer at an inner city "lounge" sort of thing....
Tracy - it is indeed interesting and different idea, so as I said, some people might love it, but it's not for everyone's bowling spirits!
