Interested in Sydney's political history?
February 2nd 2008 11:03
The State Library of NSW, nicely situated on Macquarie St close to the Conservatorium of Music, is holding a free (yes, FREE!) exhibition on Bligh's Sydney Rebellion in 1808.
William Bligh was the fourth governor of NSW. In January 1808, he was placed under arrest in the first, and only time a military intervention was used to over throw a government in Australia. This event rocked stories, and brought to attention the political powers and military campaigns at the time, in a young colony of twenty years.
Paintings, drawings and letters from the State Library's collections will be exhibited from now, until 27 April 2008.
