Sydney's Chinese New Year Celebrations

February 10th 2008 07:05
For two weeks now, the City of Sydney has been busy celebrating Chinese New Years which happened on 7th February (last Thursday). It's reportedly the biggest Chinese New Years celebration in a city outside Asia.

Today, the entire city's population swarmed into the city to watch the colourful Chinese New Years parade down George St into Darling Harbour and with heaven's blessing, the day was warm and sunny, much unlike the previous week.

Here are the photos from today's parade:

I am glad it was! I was afraid it might be pouring down with rain like couple of days ago!

Wonderful colour and variety, good subjects for photography, celebrations good for Chinese restaurants, too.

Sorry, I missed it. Too much publicity after, not enough before. But I would not have been able to go anyway. Shame.

Perhaps the rest of the community needs to develop a few more festivals.

Hi Amy,

I loved the pictures, it looks like you had a great day, as you said, thank God the weather held up... not so lucky here in Qld.

I want to share a picture with you that I took year before last during a multi-cultural festival up here in Queensland... Nyehoo, the thing is, I was trying to get 'this shot' for years, and always missed seeing the dragon's head over the body, because they walked too fast, or my camera had a few seconds delay. Here is proof that patience pays off. *lol*

My youngest daughter is a ratty, and already has so many opportunities opening up for in her this year. Not too bad for me either as a Dog.

Thanks for sharing, gosh the pictures of Sydney's streets take me back to the 70's when I lived there.

Lilla ...
