I was standing around waiting for the bus to arrive, and saw the little advertisement that was stuck on the bus stop - The Day Tripper, unlimited use on buses, trains and the ferry service! - I know these have been around for a while, but never did I think of getting one for my day's public transport.
So out of instinct, I thought I'd give it a go.
The Day Tripper ticket cost me $16. I need to go to Manly and back. So, as soon as I found a seat on the bus, my head went ahead with the calculation.
From home to Circular Quay on TravelTen = $2.10 per trip
Manly Ferry to = $6
Manly Ferry back = $6
Bus to Chinatown for dinner = $1.60 (I think)
Bus from Chinatown home = $2.10
Total if I were paying cash all the way = $17.80
So by using the Day Trip I had saved $1.80
Not to mention, I only used it for half a day. The ticket is valid until 4am the next day so I could have gone to more places today saving me even more!
Good value, if you ask me, especially if you need to going to many places in one day and don't have one of those weekly passes, or for a visitor in Sydney that will be using public transport all day.

Getting on a ferry is a cheap and easy way to see the beautiful of Sydney Harbour - not to mention it takes you to famous attractions like the zoo and Manly beach!
