Experience a ghostly side of Sydney
February 7th 2008 03:29
Sydney is known for her beach culture, the vibrant city life, the harbour bridge and opera house. However, would you be prepared to learn many of its darkest secrets?
As part of my learning to write about an iconic destination from a different point of view, I decided to join up a ghost tour around The Rocks. Now, you don't hear people talk about Sydney's ghosts too often!
The tours starts at 7:45pm and takes you around the narrow streets of an icon in Sydney's history.
"If you feel a chilly breeze and no one else in the group looks like they did too, it's most probably a ghost is trying to talk to you" Said my guide. I hold tightly to my notebook, pretending not to care.
I have been to The Rocks many times, for concerts, markets and shopping, but always have been in day light. I never would imagine a vibrant precinct where music and jugglers entertain all day, could turn into such deathly scary at night.
We were explained about the Dead House, which is now The Old Coroner's Court, where many innocent dead were place and their spirit still lingers to seek justice. We were told about the mutilated body found in a lane nearby, and many other eerie stories that apparently still happens today.
Shivering, not from the cold, I noted down as much as I wanted to remember.
Along side many of The Rocks walking and pub tours, this is something different for those looking for a different angle of the place.
$34 per person.

Another similar tour you can take is the ghost tour of the old Quarantine Station in Manly. Of a different historical nature, it's also worth a visit.

Hi Hope - I scare easily, and I am still recovering from the tour! Bringing your husband definitely is a good idea, unless he is like my fiance who really is a wuss sometimes!
