Bundeena - Royal National Park
January 31st 2008 03:58
You don't need to get out of Sydney to experience a bit of tranquility of the national parks. Royal National Park down south of Sydney is an excellent day trip or a camping weekend for those looking for a quick escape.
Camping is great in the park. There are facilities available for car camping, or camp sites requiring a bit of trekking to get to. A couple of years ago a group of friends and I decided to catch a train to Loftus station and trekked from there. Although it did take us a whole 8 hours to get through to our camp site, it was a day of bush and fun. There are easier ways to get there, such as driving, or getting to Cronulla and catch a ferry over.
Bundeena, the main town centre in the Royal National Park, is a great base for park visitors. Every first Sunday of the month are Markets by the Sea, where local craft and artists display and sell their works by the shorelines of the national park.
Trekking and wildlife watching are two great activities in the Royal National Park. Pitch your tents under the sparkling sky right beside beautiful beaches is what this place is all about.
Make sure to call the national park office if you want to camp - reservation is required and a fee is payable.
