Restaurant Review: Wagamama, King St Wharf
February 11th 2008 00:11
The concept behind Wagamama was born in London among the busy and hip district of Soho. The restaurant has been known for their quality and reasonably priced food and a clean, relaxed cafeteria style dining.
I first had Wagamama in London, having been introduced to it by a friend working in the UK, I find myself dining there everywhere they have restaurants while I was travelling - for example, in Denmark. And odd place but yes, their operations has expanded further than the European continent ever since.
The name suggest a Japanese style menu however to be honest, it's far from authentic, and it's perfectly allowed to be not. Wagamama style is the ultimate fusion, combining the influence of Japanese cuisine to suit everyone's taste, with an emphasis on healthy eating. Having been to their chains across the world, they also have a standard throughout their restaurants so no matter where you go in the world, you can expect the same Wagamama experience.
And the best thing about this particular Wagamama? At King st Wharf in Sydney where every other restuarant are serving up market menus for $25 per person excluding drinks, you can expect to satisfy your hunger with just around $15. From Soba noodle soups to stir fried noodles to their rice dishes, serving are generous and the taste delicious. And to top it all up, it's absolute water front dining without the price tag.
The casual seating means there is no snobbiness and you can enjoy your meal with your loved ones, your family or lunch with colleagues all the same, and there is no one to comment on how you use your chopsticks to poke about.

I had some noodles for $18, and it was a rather small portion, served on hip plates, with little flavour.
It was miserable! Big bowl of noodles in a chinese or japanese restaurant will set you back $10 in chinatown. I think Wagamama is horribly overpriced and just 'Asian' enough for timid restaurant goers. 'Ooh, we've got lemongrass! How chic!'
sorry - I feel very strongly about this restaurant!

Although I haven't had anything that's small in portion... I wonder what that could have been?
